Where's Jesus Gone?
Don't let everyday life make you forget to look for Him
GM. This is Soul Food. We turn the bibleβs 100-mph fastballs into easy, underhand throws. With us, youβll be hitting nothing but home runs!
πππ Here's what we're exploring today:
In Luke 2 Jesus and His parents are heading to the synagogue β no drama, everyone's accounted for. But on the journey home? That's when they realise Jesus is missing.
It wasn't the path to the synagogue (or for us the interview, the airport, etc.) where his parents lost track of Him. It was the routine journey home that they'd walked countless times before. The journey home represents our everyday life, the mundane bits we navigate on autopilot.
Familiarity leads to complacency. When we're comfortable, we stop paying attention. We assume everything's fine because it always has been. But that's precisely when we're most vulnerable to losing sight of what matters most.
The same happens in our spiritual lives. We can get so caught up in the routine, work, responsibilities, the everyday grind that we forget to actively look to Jesus in our circumstances. For us Jesus is there but we're not actually engaging with Him.
But in the story Jesus wasn't actually lost β He was exactly where He needed to be, doing His Father's business. Sometimes when we think we've lost Him, He's simply waiting for us to stop, look around, and recognise He's been there all along.
Don't let the familiar make you forget to look for Him.
πππ Key takeaways:
Familiarity leads to complacency and a lack of attention to Jesus
We're most likely to lose sight of Jesus during routine, everyday moments
Jesus isn't actually lost/AWOL β He's waiting for us to actively look for Him again
