The brothers mentioned they had a younger brother in Canaan, so Joseph said, “To prove you are not spies, I will keep your brother Simeon here in Egypt, and I want you to bring your brother Benjamin to Egypt.” Following this, the brothers headed home, leaving Simeon behind.

Simeon’s name means “hearing.” So when Simeon was locked up in Egypt, you could say Israel’s hearing was locked up too. When Israel did not have their hearing, they ran out of food, literally, and had to come back to Egypt to buy more.

Upon the brothers’ return, Simeon was released, and only then could they enter the house of Joseph. Joseph’s name means “He will add,” so if you want to enter the house of addition, you will need your hearing. Your hearing is important, and equally important is what you hear.
