Thoughts DO NOT Count

From thought to action: why applying knowledge makes all the difference

GM. This is Soul Food, your daily slice of the Bible pie – always fresh, never stale.

🌶️🌶️🌶️ Here’s the sauce:

Here’s a quick one for you. In Genesis 42, there is a famine throughout the whole world, and during this time, the only nation with food was Egypt because of Joseph’s God-inspired idea to store food.

Jacob, Joseph’s father, is currently in the Promised Land (not in Egypt). However, Genesis 42:1 says that Jacob learned that there was grain for sale in Egypt.

To learn means to acquire knowledge, but knowledge itself does not count for anything. For example, if you know how to make a meal but take no action, it will not satisfy your hunger. Knowing things does not pay bills, just like thoughts count for nothing.

Instead, it is the application of knowledge or the thought that counts.

In Jacob’s case, when he acquired the knowledge, he acted upon it and sent his sons to Egypt to buy food. For Jacob, this was a do-or-die situation, so he had to take action.

But action starts with the small things that may look insignificant and then moves on to the larger items. If you cannot act on the small, don’t fool yourself by saying, “I’ll do it when…”

Knowledge in itself is useless. Put that knowledge into application or act on that thought.

There is no time to waste. You were put here for a reason.

🔑🔑🔑 Key takeaways:

  • Knowledge alone has limited value – it’s the action based on that knowledge that creates real impact and change.

  • Start small, act now – even small actions on what you know can build momentum toward fulfilling your purpose.
