The Secret to Unshakable Peace (Even in Crisis)
From panic to peace: what changed in Peter, and what it means for you
GM. This is Soul Food, the newsletter that treats bible news like a speed dating round β fast, fun, and to the point.
πΆοΈπΆοΈπΆοΈ Hereβs the sauce for today:
You're facing the biggest trial of your life tomorrow. How would you spend the night before? Pacing the floor?
Peter had a different approach. He slept like a big baby.
Acts 12:6-7: "The night before Herod was to bring him to trial, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains, and sentries stood guard at the entrance. Suddenly an angel of the Lord appeared and a light shone in the cell. He struck Peter on the side and woke him up."
This was the night before a massive decision in Peter's life. King Herod had already executed James, and Peter was next. Yet he was sleeping so soundly that when an angel appeared with light blazing in his cell, Peter didn't even flip over, the boy was knocked out!
The angel had to physically strike Peter to wake him up. That's stone cold peace.
What was Peter's secret? The answer isn't in Peter's circumstances β those were terrible. It's in Peter's confidence. Peter learned something profound: God is with us wherever we are, and He's willing to get us out of any problem.
This is the same Peter who once panicked and sank when he took his eyes off Jesus. But now, facing execution, he's sleeping without a care.
Whatever chains you're facing today β God is inviting you to have Peter's peace. Your God is bigger than your problems.
The same God who sent an angel to Peter's prison is with you right now.
πππ Key takeaways:
Peterβs peace didnβt come from his circumstances, but from confidence in Godβs presence.
Even when everything looked hopeless, Peter rested β literally β in Godβs power.
The same God who freed Peter is still with us, offering the same peace today.
