Set the Atmosphere

Position yourself to hear Him

GM. This is Soul Food, the bible newsletter that's more exciting than waiting for your dial-up internet to finally connect.

πŸ—ΊοΈπŸ—ΊοΈπŸ—ΊοΈ Here's what's on the map today:

In 2 Kings 3:14-15, Elisha is about to prophesy but first he says something interesting: "Bring me a musician." And when the musician played, the hand of the Lord came upon him.

This is all about setting the atmosphere.

Before Elisha could hear from God, he needed to create the right environment. He didn't just sit there waiting – he intentionally set the tone. The worship, the music, the atmosphere – it all mattered.

The same applies to us. If you want to hear from God, you need to set the atmosphere.

This doesn't mean you need a physical prayer closet or a specific room. It could be the state of your heart. It could be putting worship music on. It could be eliminating distractions. It could be opening your Bible. Whatever it is, you need to create an environment where Jesus can speak and you can hear.

You cannot expect to hear from God clearly whilst scrolling through social media or with the television blaring in the background.

Set the atmosphere. Create the space. Then watch what God does.

When you intentionally position yourself to hear from Him, He will speak.

πŸ”‘πŸ”‘πŸ”‘ Key takeaways:

  • Elisha set the atmosphere through worship before hearing from God

  • Create an environment (physical or heart posture) where you can hear from Jesus

  • Intentionally eliminate distractions and position yourself to receive from God
