Nothing to Lose
Why your imaginary consequences are keeping you small, and what the bible teaches us about bold moves.
GM. This is Soul Food, your bible training camp – building your biblical muscles one insight at a time.
🥞🥞🥞 Here’s what we’re serving up today:
In Joshua 2, we meet Rahab. Here's a woman with zero leverage, zero status, yet she makes the boldest ask. After hiding the Israelite spies, she says: "Please swear to me by the Lord that you will show kindness to my family... give me a sure sign."
The audacity! But here's why she could ask: she had nothing to lose.
How often do we stay silent when we should speak? We build imaginary catastrophes in our minds:
"If I ask, they'll say no"
"If I try, I'll fail"
"If I move, I'll regret it"
But Rahab teaches us something profound: when you realise you have nothing to lose, boldness arrives.
Perhaps you're eyeing that new role but fear rejection. Dreaming of that trip but feel guilty about spending. Avoiding that conversation. Burying that idea.
Here's the question: what do you actually have to lose?
Rahab made the ask. It changed everything. She's no longer "Rahab the prostitute" but a woman of faith, written into the lineage of Jesus himself.
The job application? Send it. The trip? Book it. The conversation? Have it. The question? Ask it.
Remember, our God doesn't just meet needs—He exceeds them. He's waiting for you to ask. And like Rahab discovered, you've got far less to lose than you think and absolutely everything to gain.
Make today a day of bold asks. Do. Not. Delay.
🔑🔑🔑 Key takeaways:
Realising you have nothing to lose is the moment you gain boldness
Your imaginary consequences are often bigger than reality
Bold asking can completely rewrite your story
