Honour Beats Fame

Stop chasing the wrong currency.

GM. This is Soul Food. We hit you with the Word like sunshine through the window on a Monday morning.

β˜€β˜€β˜€ Here's the forecast today:

In 2 Samuel 23, we meet two of David's mighty men. Abishai was the most famous of the thirty. Benaiah was honoured above them.

Here is the thing about fame. Fame is what people give you. You can be famous without being honoured, and you can be honoured without being famous. These are not the same currency.

Abishai had the name. But Benaiah had the favour. And it was Benaiah who became the commander of Solomon's army.

Honour comes from character. It comes from the quiet faithfulness when nobody is watching, from doing the right thing when the wrong thing would be easier, from consistency over performance.

Fame chases the moment. Honour builds the legacy.

The world is full of people optimising for likes, shares and recognition. But God is not scrolling your feed. He is watching your character.

Benaiah was honoured. And honour promoted him.

Do not build for the crowd. Build for God. Because the honour that comes from Him is the only one that comes with a promotion attached.

Be a Benaiah.

πŸ”‘πŸ”‘πŸ”‘ Key takeaways:

  • Fame is given by people. Honour is assigned by God. Chase honour, not fame.

  • Benaiah's honour came before his promotion. Character precedes calling.

  • Stop building for the crowd. Build for God and let Him do the promoting.
