Direction Not Discipline

God's approach with you is guidance, not punishment

🍰🍰🍰 Here's the menu today:

In Genesis 32:10, Jacob reflects on his journey: "For with only my staff I crossed this Jordan, and now I have become two camps."

Notice Jacob mentions a staff, not a rod. This matters loads.

Reason being is that Jacob left with direction, not rebuke. This reflects how God operates with us today. Having already paid for our sins, He now desires to guide us forward rather than punish us backward (see below what the rod and staff represent).

The rod represents two crucial things in Scripture. Firstly, leadership - Moses carried a rod symbolising authority. In Psalm 23:4, "your rod" refers to God's leadership, reminding us He's in control. Secondly, discipline - Proverbs 13:24 shows the rod as correction from love.

But the staff tells a different story. It's a wooden stick with a hook, used by shepherds to gently guide sheep out of ditches or back from wandering. This represents pure guidance.

God's approach with you isn't corrective; it's directive. He's not looking to discipline you into submission but guide you into destiny. Like Jacob, you left with God's staff - His gentle guidance leading you from where you were to where He's called you to be.

🔑🔑🔑 Key takeaways:

  • God operates through guidance rather than punishment for believers

  • The staff represents direction leading us toward our destiny

  • Trust God's guidance over fear of His discipline (He not coming after you!)
