Big Picture Thinking

Master the art of knowing versus giving deliberate attention

GM. This is Soul Food, the newsletter that helps you unwrap bible faster than a 6-year-old unwraps their presents on Christmas morning.

🍰🍰🍰 Here's the menu today:

In Proverbs 27:23, we're told to "know well the condition of your flocks, and give attention to your herds." This might seem like basic farming advice, but there's wisdom here for life.

The distinction between flocks and herds is important. Flocks represent the smaller animals such as sheep, chickens, life's daily tasks: paying bills, answering emails, etc. You need to know their condition, stay aware, but not obsess.

Herds, however, are larger animals like cows, fewer in number but greater in IMPACT. These represent your major priorities: your calling, key relationships, spiritual growth, and goals.

So, know the small stuff but don't let it consume your energy. Give your concentrated attention to what truly matters.

πŸ”‘πŸ”‘πŸ”‘ Key takeaways:

  • Know your small details but don't obsess over them

  • Give focused attention to your major priorities

  • Don’t waste energy on the wrong things
